The first time I turned over a generator was in 1998 and it was for my father-in-law. I had bought the thing for him, set it up, got it running and explained to him how it operated and what was involved. I mentioned the load it could carry and what appliances should not be run on the generator. After accounting for every possible veritable, he still overworked the generator and managed to blowout his TV in the process. Some people just can't be trusted to operate such equipment no matter how well instructed.

In every disaster there are pillagers and those willing to take advantage of others...

Seems the best advice our dealers can offer is to remind their customers to have their service done BEFORE the next event -- and maybe provide some instructional flyers on how to use their products!

I'm sure the guy selling the "refurbished" generators was probably hand-in-hand with the guy selling the $8.00 gallons of water. I can remember when Opal came through and we had the same thing going on. Some people have no moral fiber. I noticed the comment about ethanol and alternative fuels. The story really has nothing to do with alternative fuel. There is a connection perhaps when discussing carb maintenance/work. That said, I am very interested to hear what you have to add concerning the use of alternative fuels in your industry. As you might have already guest I am not a dealer, mechanic or lawn-care provider. I actually stumbled on your blog from as Google search on buying a generator in the southeast. My interest in the use of alternative fuel stems from my wifes job. She works as a chemical engineer for a large oil company, and alternative fuel is something I hear about on a daily basis. Seems Google's mistake lead to an interesting find. Sorry to take up your time, nice blog.
